Hiking Flaine Ski Area
Saturday, November 15, 2008
It was grey when we left Geneva this morning. Not the type of weather that gives one a big boost of energy.
The plan for the day was to hike the nearby ski resort of Flaine with our friends Will & Doreen. Most of the French and Swiss ski areas were not open yet for the season.
We arrived at Flaine and were pleased to see we were right to make this our destination today. We were high above the clouds and the views were magnificent. Our trek up to a viewpoint was partially through ski slopes and we were among the first to mark these pristine slopes with our footprints. The overwhelming feeling of freedom was captured by Will in this photo.
We had stopped part of the way up to our viewpoint to devour our picnic lunch on a 6-person chairlift. We washed down our picnic with some hot gluhwine. Mmmmm.....
In the spring, Eric and Will will be back to bike this area. In the meantime, we have all begun to dream about the other winter sport, skiing.
