Geneva Vineyard Loop
Tuesday, June 3, 2008
For the first time in a week, I decided to chance a ride on my Bianchi. While dark clouds hovered over the Jura and le Salève; Geneva and its surroundings were overcasted with random patches of sunshine through breaks in the clouds.
This ride took me through several towns including a stretch on theregional cycle route 102 (Gare de Cornavin --> Satigny).
From Satigny, I rode down to Peney-Dessous and crossed the Rhone to Aire-la-Ville. From there, I noticed that the weather was better in the direction of St-Julien (South, France) than Malval (North, Switzerland). None-the-less, with more determination than ever, I turned westward in the direction of Russin hoping to reach Dardagny before the rain.
A longer loop through Malval was ruled out as soon as I encountered a patch of rain just north of Russin. A quick turn to a different direction proved to be a good move. I rode up to Dardagny in full sunshine and basked in the quietness and beauty of the region.
The route home took me through Avully, Eaumorte (dead water), Cartigny, Chèvres and Loëx. I was not as lucky with the weather and was drenched as I rode through patches of rain shower. A wrong turn after Loëx took me through a narrow woody pedestrian path along the Rhone. I made way for a group of 30 friendly joggers who shouted out "Bonjour!" as they ran by me.
I managed to reach home about half an hour before the downpour began. All-in-all, it was a great loop.
